sugar and spice

at dinner the boys reminded me of this poem
What are little boys made of?
What are little boys made of?
Frogs and snails
And puppy-dogs’ tails,
That’s what little boys are made of.
What are little girls made of?
What are little girls made of?
Sugar and spice
And all that’s nice,
That’s what little girls are made of.

as a girl i remembered the sugar and spice and all things nice but until i had little boys i didn’t realize how well frogs and snails and puppy dog tails fit.

echinacea, cayenne and colds

so i am througholly grateful for plant medicine i’m living on throat coat tea, echinacea and super bio-vegetarian vitamins. my husband explained to me about therapeutic doses, hallelujah. i take 3 at a time when i’m getting sick and i rarely get full blown sick. mothers can’t afford to get sick and stay in bed. also i put essential oils on my feet and chest, clove, oregano, peppermint…this week i got a treadmill from craigslist and was so splendidly happy yet wonder when my kids enthusiasm for a new toy will wear off.
well it’s a good weekend to be sick the rain is continuing to set the mood to staying indoors. blessings of health…

halloween

something is happening to everyone at this time of year. halloween brings out the playfulness in a lot of people. it’s like the inner child can be more free, we get to dress up and eat and be with loved ones, whats better than that? my friend came over and showed me in 30 minutes what it would take to read in 2+ hours in my camera manual yeehaw. life is good and gracious. my husband was in a fender bender today and we felt grateful that he prayed to be protected as he pulled out of the driveway as he always does. no one was harmed. count your many blessings name them one by one see what God hath done. counting blessings sure feel better than counting your challenges….

winterblues

so i’m starting a blog finally, i’ve started a few already but they seemed sorta complicated and i felt all pressured to post pictures and make it interesting but after watching julie/julia again i thought what the heck why not? it will help me feel like i have something to do this winter when it’s bleak and cold here on the eastside. on days like this i wonder why i ever said i liked the charming weather of the northwest. there sure isn’t anything charming about it at 7 am trying to make myself get out of bed to wake up my kids and walk them to school in the dark. okay thats an exaggeration. compared to maui maybe. so i’ved decided to get a treadmill that way i can work out while my kids watch a movie or something.
well i hope in some small way my blog helps someone. like someone going through depression and trying to find purpose in life. my dad is an incredibly gifted counselor and he says that everyone can feel depressed, that doesn’t mean they Have depression. and one great way to “cure” it is SERVICE.
i find that to be very true. when i’m feeling blue it’s because i’m so over-concentrated on my circumstance that i forget everyone and everything else. so i serve. my church gives me wonderful opportunities to serve others. I’m LDS (that stands for latter day saint) aka Mormon. i’m sure there may be readers that have heard lots of myths about mormons and i encourage you to find out the truth. that means reading and praying. not talking to people about their opinions. wow i had no idea i’d mention any of that. it’s amazing where your typing fingers can lead you. i’m sure centuries and even decades ago if more people had blogs available they would have been writers. theres only so much you can do with pen and ink. signing off for now for some breakfast. joyful blessings!
